The Competition

Take a view, the Landscape Photographer of the Year Award, is the brainchild of Charlie Waite, one of today’s most respected landscape photographers.

With a total prize fund exceeding £20,000, plus an eight-week exhibition at the National Theatre and the publication of a full colour book of Best Entries, Take a view will continue to be a desirable annual competition for photographers of all ages for years to come. Britain’s heritage is celebrated by people around the world and entries are welcome from everyone, whether resident in Britain or simply visiting.

There will also be an award for the Young Landscape Photographer of the Year and each of the four main categories has both adult and youth sections.

'The rich diversity of the British landscape is something that is available to all of us and is ours to enjoy. This competition will provide an on-going platform for capturing images that best symbolise our land and our times, and that will stand as a record of our country.'

Charlie Waite

Charlie worked in the British theatre and in television for the first ten years of his professional life. During this time, he became fascinated by theatrical lighting and design. Gradually the landscape and the way it can be revealed to us through light and shade stole him away from the acting profession.

He is now firmly established as one of the most celebrated international landscape photographers. He has published 28 books on photography and has held over thirty solo exhibitions across Europe, the USA, Japan and Australia, including three very successful exhibitions in the gallery at the OXO Tower, visited by twelve thousand plus visitors each.

His company, Light & Land, runs photographic tours, courses and workshops worldwide that are dedicated to inspiring photographers and improving their photography. This is achieved with the help of a select team of specialist photographic leaders, all at the very top in their field.
